1960 ASTON MARTIN DBR5/250
By 1960 it was obvious that rear engined cars was the way to go in F1 even to Ferrari. Aston Martin however decided to improve their already dated DBR4. The space frame chassis was smaller and lighter, the David Brown gearbox was replaced by a Maserati 5M-60 trans axle and a new two piece propshaft. For 1960 new 80 degree cylinder heads resulted in less power. Instead of using the old heads fuel injection was used and the cars where only 5 bhp down on the previous years cars. During the season fuel injection was abandoned in favour of Webbers and one car was fitted with independant rear suspension.
